The Enchantment of Gnomes: A Children's Contest in Odesa and Wrocław
Odesa and Wrocław are recognized as UNESCO literary cities. The gnome is a famous symbol of Wrocław, which boasts over a thousand sculptures of these charming creatures representing various professions and activities. Gnomes can be found throughout Wrocław, representing cafes, workshops, confectioneries, libraries, pharmacies, and more.
On October 25, 2024, a Ukrainian-Polish children's contest titled «Fairy Tale Heroes of UNESCO Literary Cities: The World of Gnomes» will kick off in Odesa.
To participate in the contest, young artists are invited to draw their favorite fairy tale characters – gnomes, and write their own stories about this wonderful race of small people (as gnomes are called in Polish mythology).
Drawings in A3, A4 format and stories up to 5000 characters will be accepted for a month – from October 25 to November 25, 2024 – at the email address: igo189188@gmail.com
All submissions will be displayed on the contest page.
The contest jury from Odesa and Wrocław will select the best works and announce the winners. Entries that qualify for the contest will be featured in an exhibition, and the stories will be published in a gnome book and presented in both Odesa and Wrocław.
This children's contest aims to strengthen cultural ties and collaboration between cultural institutions in Odesa and Wrocław.
Organizers of the contest: The Centralized Library System for Children of Odesa (Children's Library No. 45) and the section of Odesa children's writers of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine.
