Decline in Cargo Handling at Ukrainian Ports in 2025

In the first quarter of 2025, Ukrainian ports processed 23 million tons of cargo, which is 4.8 million tons less than in the same period last year.

This information is reported by the Administration of the Sea Ports of Ukraine.

According to AMPU data, the highest volumes of cargo handling were recorded in the ports of Greater Odesa, handling 20.7 million tons since the beginning of the year. Specifically, the Southern Port handled 10.6 million tons, the Chornomorsk Port 6.6 million tons, and the Odesa Port 3.5 million tons.

The Danube region ports — Izmail, Reni, and Ust-Dunaisk — together processed over 2.3 million tons of cargo.

“The decline in cargo turnover is related to a reduction in agricultural land and a downturn in production in export-oriented sectors, particularly metallurgy, which exported up to 80% of its production before the war,” explained AMPU.

It is noted that globally, cargo handling is also decreasing due to market instability and disruptions in logistics.
