Safe Roads: Children's Awareness Month
In Odessa, Children's Awareness Month regarding road safety is taking place, titled “Attention! Children on the Road!”.
The main goal of this initiative is to reduce the incidence of road traffic injuries among children, to instill skills for adhering to road rules, and to encourage youth to learn and follow the Traffic Rules, as well as to behave safely on city streets and in public transport. It is essential to nurture in children an understanding of the importance of safety for themselves and others.
In schools of the Peresyp district, class hours have been held on topics such as “Follow the Rules – Save a Life” and “Know the Road Signs – Avoid Trouble”. During these sessions, students discussed key road behavior rules, watched educational videos, and participated in various quizzes.
Open exhibitions of children's drawings and creative works titled “Safe Country!”, “Attention! Children on the Road!”, “Traffic Alphabet”, and “We are Pedestrians!” have also been organized.
Class teachers conducted discussions with students on the topic “My Safe Journey for Knowledge” and helped children create individual safe routes to school and back.
A highlight for students was the opportunity to meet a real police vehicle. Together with officers, the children reviewed pedestrian rules and reinforced their knowledge of traffic rules through interactive games such as “I am the Regulator” and “Road Safety”.
Inspectors explained the importance of using reflective elements during dark hours in an accessible manner and emphasized the rules for crossing roads and using public transport.
For preschool children, thematic classes were held, including “Attention! Children on the Road”, “Know the Road Signs – Avoid Trouble”, “Traffic Alphabet”, “I am a Little Pedestrian”, “My Behavior on Public Transport”, “Rules for Crossing Intersections”, and “I’m Going to Kindergarten”. Preschoolers learned the basic pedestrian rules and studied road signs and their meanings.
