Lessons of Accessibility: Cultivating Respect in Schools

As part of the nationwide initiative «Without Barriers», supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Office of the First Lady, schools in Odesa are conducting lessons on accessibility.

These lessons, aimed at instilling a culture of respect, tolerance, and mutual assistance among children, have taken place in schools of the Peresyp district.

During the classes, students discussed the concept of accessibility, learned to understand the needs of people with disabilities, the elderly, parents with small children, and other social groups. The children engaged in interactive tasks, watched videos, participated in discussions, and role-playing games.

Teachers focused on developing empathy and practical skills for inclusive behavior, such as how to offer help correctly, avoid stereotypes, and how everyone can make their environment friendlier and more accessible.

First-grade students received a notebook titled «Life Without Barriers».

Such activities help nurture a generation of youth capable of embracing diversity, valuing human dignity, and creating an atmosphere of respect and support. Students learn to notice and support one another, which will aid them in building a society of equal opportunities in the future.
