Global Issues on YouTube on October 16th
During the night of October 16th, hundreds of thousands of users globally reported disruptions on the YouTube platform and its services. The YouTube team announced this.
The company acknowledged that they were aware of problems with video playback on YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube TV.
Shortly after, they reported that the issue was resolved, allowing users to resume watching videos, yet the specific cause of the disruption was not disclosed.
According to NetBlocks, a service monitoring internet access and various services globally, the incident was not linked to internet outages or country-level filtering.
Data from the monitoring platform Downdetector revealed that the peak complaints came at 2:36 AM on October 16th, with over 330,000 users reporting issues with YouTube. Complaints originated from Ukraine, the USA, the UK, Canada, Japan, Australia, and several other countries.
