Ukrainian Rangers Recognized on Global Stage
At the international congress of ecologists in Abu Dhabi, the team from 'Tuzly Lagoons' national park received the prestigious Ranger Award 2025.
This Ukrainian team was recognized as one of the best in the world, alongside representatives from other continents, for their contributions to preserving unique ecosystems in southern Ukraine, fighting against poaching, and maintaining biodiversity even during the war.
The award was established by international organizations that honor those who dedicate their lives to protecting wildlife globally.
Irina Vykhrystiuk, the chief ranger of the park, accepted the award on behalf of the team. She has repeatedly stood up for nature, confronting poachers and defending ecosystems, often putting her own life at risk.
Sadly, the war has claimed the lives of two rangers, while several others are serving in the armed forces. However, the team continues their work, restoring nature after devastating fires and proving that nature conservation is an essential part of the fight for Ukraine.
“This award symbolizes our struggle for Ukraine and nature, even in difficult times,” emphasized the national park team.
