Another Stage of Prisoner Exchange: Return of Injured Defenders
Today marked another stage in the prisoner exchange focused on injured and seriously ill defenders. As per the agreements made in Istanbul, the Coordination Headquarters, under the directive of the President of Ukraine, has successfully returned another group of defenders from Russian captivity, who are suffering from severe injuries and health issues.
The returning service members are from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including representatives from the Navy, Army, Territorial Defense, Airborne Forces, Drone Forces, as well as the Border Guard and National Guard.
All the released defenders today are of soldier and sergeant rank.
Among the liberated are again the defenders of Mariupol, who have been held captive since 2022.
All the released defenders have injuries or serious medical diagnoses such as epilepsy, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, vision problems, musculoskeletal disorders, hernias, and chronic digestive diseases. Many of those released have been diagnosed with significant weight loss.
The returned defenders will be transported to medical centers for necessary examinations and further treatment and rehabilitation. All released individuals will receive essential assistance, have their documents restored, and receive due financial compensation for the time spent in captivity.
The exchange process continues according to the Istanbul agreements. The exact number of released individuals will be announced after all stages of the exchange are completed.
The Coordination Headquarters is continuing its work. We are committed to bringing everyone back!
