The Importance of Blood Donation During War

During the ongoing war, the demand for blood donations for civilians remains high, while the need for blood transfusions for military personnel and victims of aggression significantly increases.

This week, the city project «Donor Odessa» in collaboration with the Odessa-Simferopol Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church organized a collective blood donation event. The donation was blessed by Bishop Stanislav Shyrokoradyuk, who is an honorary blood donor.

“Donating blood is a demonstration of Christian mercy and unconditional love for our neighbors. We must help those in need, especially those who shed their blood to protect us,” said Bishop Stanislav.

The blood collection, held at the office of the Roman Catholic Church, was conducted by a mobile team from the Odessa Regional Blood Transfusion Station. About fifteen parishioners and church ministers participated in the donation. One donation can save up to three lives.

Previously, within the framework of the «Donor Odessa» project, the local Jewish community «Chabad Shomrey Shabbos» joined in with the support of the chief rabbi of Odessa and Southern Ukraine, Abraham Wolf.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the «Donor Odessa» project has effectively assisted in coordinating existing blood donors and attracting new ones. To date, there have been over 13,000 blood donations, saving thousands of lives.

The «Donor Odessa» project is also actively involved in the charitable initiative «Weeks of Good Deeds».
