Japan Reaffirms Support for Ukraine's Energy Sector
During his visit to Ukraine, newly appointed Foreign Minister of Japan, Takeshi Iwaya, emphasized Japan's continued support for Ukraine, announcing a new aid package for the energy sector.
The Japanese government remains one of the most significant partners of UNDP in Ukraine, consistently funding the procurement of equipment for the restoration of critical infrastructure in the country.
Odessa has already received its first gas-engine cogeneration unit with a capacity of 3.3 MW, which is currently being installed. Soon, the city expects two more similar units, which will cover approximately one-third of the energy needs of the critical infrastructure for water supply, heating, and sewage services.
The Mayor of Odessa noted that despite the harsh conditions of the full-scale war and ongoing shelling, the city is actively building its own energy system.
«We are immensely grateful to Japan, our sister city Yokohama, which was the first to support us, to the UNDP team, and to all other countries that are helping us build the foundation of our resilience», - stated Gennady Trukhanov.
