Arrest in Odessa for Suspected Terrorist Activity
The Odessa regional prosecutor's office has announced charges against an individual in connection with a terrorist act (Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Investigators found that a resident of Odessa received a proposal via Telegram in early February to organize a bombing in Odessa. The organizer dictated the location, timing, and targets for the explosion. The suspect was promised a payment of $3,000 for carrying out the act.
Following the organizer's instructions, he created an explosive device and arrived at the designated location – a parking lot opposite the administrative building, where the targeted vehicle was parked. To document the process, the suspect set up a smartphone nearby to record everything on video and then left the scene. That same day, the vehicle was detonated remotely. As a result of the explosion, a pedestrian was injured, and several parked cars and the building's facade were damaged.
Later that evening, law enforcement detained the suspect under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. A motion is being prepared for a preventive measure.
The preliminary investigation is being conducted by the investigative department of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Odessa region, with operational support from various law enforcement agencies.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
