Former Odessa Deputy Accused of Treason
Under the supervision of the Odessa regional prosecutor's office, a former city council member who supports Russian aggression has been charged.
He is accused of treason, war propaganda, and justifying the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine via media (Part 2 of Article 111, Article 436, Part 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Investigators found that in 2014 the former deputy moved to Russia, where he actively harmed Ukraine's sovereignty and independence.
On February 24, 2022, the day of the full-scale invasion, the suspect joined Russian troops in the temporarily occupied territory of Kyiv region, aiding the enemy in navigation and spreading Kremlin narratives among the civilian population.
The former deputy actively used his Telegram channel to post messages openly calling on Ukrainian military to surrender and not resist. He justified the RF aggression in his posts, reported on the occupation's progress, and disseminated misinformation.
The suspect also gave an interview to a well-known Russian YouTube blogger, where he openly acknowledged his collaboration with the occupiers and claimed that Ukraine supposedly had no chance of victory.
He is currently wanted.
The investigation is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine in the Odessa region.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
