Beware! Fake Emails Impersonating the Tax Service
Fraudsters are widely distributing fake emails allegedly from the State Tax Service of Ukraine. This was reported by the acting head of the tax service, Lesya Karnauk.
“The subject of the email is a notification regarding a “financial audit concerning the legalization of funds” related to a certain organization. I emphasize! The Tax Service has no connection to this distribution, so we urge everyone to be cautious,” noted Karnauk.
The emails contain malicious software. Opening the attached file launches harmful software that creates technical means for unauthorized access to the user's personal computer. There is a real risk of computer infection by viruses.
Additionally, the messages are sent from email addresses that are not affiliated with the Tax Service.
The agency advises: do not open attachments in suspicious emails and adhere to personal cybersecurity rules.
On May 28, 2025, the State Tax Service of Ukraine reported the widespread distribution of fake emails allegedly from its name. Attachments in the emails contained malware that activates upon opening a PDF file. Upon clicking, the software provides remote access to the computer for attackers.
