Revitalization Efforts at Odesa Infectious Disease Hospital

Renovation and restoration activities are currently underway at the Odesa Infectious Disease Hospital.

Established between 1802 and 1804 under the initiative of Duke Richelieu, this hospital is the oldest medical institution in the city and serves as a crucial defensive stronghold against dangerous infectious diseases in southern Ukraine.

Residents of Odesa, the surrounding areas, and internally displaced persons receive care here. In recent years, the hospital has been gradually transforming into a modern medical center capable of effectively responding to various challenges.

As part of the Ukraine Recovery Program, implemented by the Ukrainian government and the European Investment Bank, work is ongoing in two buildings of the municipal clinical infectious disease hospital.

Within the historic Valikhovsky building, renovations are set to reinforce all structural elements, while authentic interior details and marble staircases will be restored. Currently, demolition work is in progress, along with the strengthening of structures, reinforcement, and concrete work.

The internal layout of this hospital wing will be redesigned according to modern standards, with a complete replacement of outdated engineering networks.

The administrative building has had its roof replaced, and facade restoration is nearing completion. Inside, work continues on the installation of partitions, finishing of spaces, and the replacement of engineering systems such as ventilation, water supply, sewage, and electricity.

In addition to funding from the European Bank, repairs are also being carried out on other hospital buildings using city budget funds. The renovation of the two-story children's wing is in its final stages, where a modern boxed department with 82 beds is being created.

Furthermore, the city budget is financing the upgrade of the drainage system and the strengthening and waterproofing of the bacteriological laboratory's foundation.
