Gas Supply Halted to Eternal Flame in Odesa

From October 24 to November 6, gas supply to the Unknown Sailor memorial, known as the «Eternal Flame», will be temporarily halted in Odesa. This is due to planned technical maintenance work required to keep this significant site in good condition.

The city council has announced that informational signs detailing the schedule of the work have already been installed near the memorial. The work is expected to last until November 6.

About the memorial complex «Monument to the Unknown Sailor»

The memorial complex «Monument to the Unknown Sailor» is located in the Taras Shevchenko Central Park of Culture and Recreation, on the Alley of Glory. It was inaugurated on May 9, 1960, in honor of the Soviet sailors who perished during the defense of Odesa in World War II.

The 21-meter tall obelisk is made of red granite and was designed by sculptor M. I. Naruzetsky and architects P. V. Tomilin and G. V. Topuz. At the base of the obelisk burns the Eternal Flame, a symbol of remembrance. The Alley of Glory also features graves of hero pilots, marines, and border guards. Annual commemorative events are held here for Memorial and Reconciliation Day and Liberation Day of Odesa.
