Reviving Historical Doors in Odesa
The doors at 13 Lermontov Lane in Odesa are reopening, just as they did over a century ago, thanks to the project «A Thousand Doors».
The building was constructed in 1899 by architects Ya. Tarnopolsky and K. Popov for merchant Yevgeny Nikolaev. After a fire in 1903, the structure was restored and later a fourth floor was added.
Today, it is a local architectural monument that preserves the history of the city's residents, educators, and engineers. Currently, the doors have returned to their original appearance.
Each restored element is a masterpiece of carpentry.
For this project, craftsmen recreated authentic bolts, partially restored metal grills, and integrated a modern electric lock and closer for convenience and security.
The wood surface is protected with Italian glaze and Danish oil, preserving the texture and natural sheen of the larch.
