New Beginnings in Fencing: Ukrainian Cup 2025-2026

From October 15 to 20, the Ukrainian Cup in fencing was held, marking the first nationwide event of the 2025-2026 season for adults.

The tournament took place at the CSK ZSU sports complex in Kyiv, gathering 345 participants (153 women and 192 men).

The winner of the Ukrainian Cup was Odesa fencer Alina Komashchuk (coaches – Oleksandr Vasyutin, Nikita Stolbunov). In the final, she triumphed over the 2023 trophy holder Oleksandra Bondar from Mykolaiv. In the semifinals, Alina defeated the current cup holder Darya Hontsova from Cherkasy with a score of 15:9. This marks her second victory at the Ukrainian Cup.

In the men's competition, Andriy Yahodka (coach – Oleksandr Vasyutin) won the silver medal. On his way to the final, Andriy achieved 10 consecutive victories (6 in the pool, 4 in the main bracket), but in the decisive match, he was outmatched by Kyiv's Oleksii Statsenko with a score of 5:15. Notably, Andriy has won 8 of the last 10 Ukrainian Cups.
