New Investments in Ukrainian Cities
The European Investment Bank has allocated 46.1 million euros to Ukraine for four projects aimed at urban development. This was announced by the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance.
The funds will be used for the reconstruction of water supply and drainage systems, the reclamation of a landfill near Lviv, improving energy efficiency in public buildings, and purchasing public transport in Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Lviv, Zaporizhzhia, Uzhhorod, Ternopil, Kamianske, Dnipro, and Kremenchuk.
Specifically, 13.3 million euros have been allocated for two municipal infrastructure and public transport development programs. An additional 14.7 million euros has been set aside for another program aimed at improving urban transport. For enhancing energy efficiency, 4.8 million euros have been earmarked.
As of October, the EIB has provided Ukraine with over 168 million euros for these initiatives. The largest funding, amounting to 121.1 million euros, has been directed towards upgrading public transport fleets in Ukrainian cities.
Overall, the EIB's loan portfolio in Ukraine is one of the largest among international financial institutions, consisting of 27 projects worth 4.7 billion euros. These funds are used to restore critical infrastructure, including roads, railways, and bridges.
As explained by Deputy Minister of Finance Olga Zykova, this support is of "extreme importance for Ukraine, especially in conditions where the government directs all internal resources to meet the needs of the security and defense sector."
