Tram Modernization in Odesa: New Opportunities for People with Disabilities
Odesa is launching a new phase of tram modernization, introducing lifts for the convenience of passengers with limited mobility.
The first tram equipped with a lift is already operating on route No. 15. By the end of the year, two more trams will undergo modernization, where specialists from KP 'OMET' will install lift mechanisms using a new technology currently undergoing patenting.
Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov stated that participation in the InnTrans exhibition in Berlin was a catalyst for solving this pressing issue faced by post-Soviet countries.
The 'Tatra' model trams are among the best modifications of Czech transport, still in operation even in Prague after modernization. Inclusive solutions from Odesa engineers enable the adaptation of these trams to modern comfort standards for people with disabilities.
Before the next tram modernization, discussions were held involving primary users of the lift mechanism—veterans, representatives of mobility-impaired groups, people in wheelchairs, and their companions.
Meeting participants noted that the new mechanism is convenient and reliable. Series installation of lifts on the upgraded trams will commence at the KP 'OMET' workshops.
