Celebration of Military Signalmen's Day
Today we celebrate the professional holiday of military signalmen - Military Signal Troops Day.
This day was established by the decree of the President of Ukraine on February 1, 2000. It was on August 8, 1920, in Kyiv, based on the former Kostiantyniv Military School, that training for signalmen began at the Kyiv Military Engineering Courses.
With the beginning of Ukraine's independence on January 3, 1992, the communication management of the Red Banner Kyiv Military District took on the responsibility for the communication system and troops of the Kyiv, Prykarpattia, and Odesa military districts, and later - the communication troops of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces. This marked the start of the formation of the Communication Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In February 2020, in accordance with the reform of military structures of the Armed Forces of Ukraine according to NATO standards, the Main Directorate of Communications and Information Systems of the General Staff was reformed into the Command of Communication Troops and Cybersecurity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Today, communication troops are specialized forces designed to ensure communication and command of the Armed Forces, and signalmen serve in all branches of the military. Currently, the specialty of a military signalman is one of the most in-demand on the front lines.
President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude to the communication troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, whose work ensures the success of important operations.
According to Zelensky, this day is a day of gratitude to those who maintain reliable communication in the most challenging moments. Between units. Between command and the front. Between decision and action. The success of important operations and the coordination of actions by defenders are also results of the professional work of signalmen.
"Thank you for your professionalism. For maintaining stable communication. Gratitude for your critically important work. Happy holiday!", the President emphasized.
Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal congratulated the military signalmen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on their professional holiday.
"Reliable communication is the foundation of every successful operation. It is crucial at all stages of combat and at every link - from decision-making at headquarters to implementation on the front lines," Shmyhal noted in a Telegram post.
He added that thanks to the work of military signalmen, units effectively coordinate actions, commanders receive timely information, and soldiers get support that saves lives.
"Thank you for your resilience, reliability, and professionalism. Every victory of our units is also your victory," the minister stressed, wishing the military signalmen good health, inspiration, and new successes in service to Ukraine.
