Amendments in Legislation Regarding Missing Persons Investigations
The official publication of the Verkhovna Rada, “Golos Ukrainy”, has released Law No. 4555-IX “On Amendments to the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine Regarding the Pre-Trial Investigation of Crimes Related to Missing Persons Under Special Circumstances During Martial Law”.
Relevant information is available on the publication's website.
According to the text of the document, this law takes effect the day after its publication.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law on July 22 that reduces the powers of NABU and SAP.
Specifically, it concerns bill No. 12414 "On Amendments to the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine Regarding the Features of Pre-Trial Investigation of Crimes Related to Missing Persons Under Special Circumstances During Martial Law”, to which a number of amendments were made.
After the law was passed, NABU Director Semen Kryvonos urged the President not to sign it, stating that now "two independent institutions – NABU and SAP - are effectively placed under control".
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the law regarding the pre-trial investigation of crimes related to missing persons under martial law, which reduces the powers and effectively deprives NABU and SAP of their independence.
Members of Parliament are initiating a petition drive and preparing a constitutional submission to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine regarding the law on reducing the powers of NABU and SAP.
