New Archaeological Discoveries in Odesa Region
In the Odesa region, near the village of Orlivka, an archaeological expedition organized by K.D. Ushynskyi University has commenced. The research is taking place at the necropolis known as «Stone Hill», located by the banks of the Lower Danube.
According to Andrii Krasnozhon, the university's rector, this area has been a vital crossing point between the Great Eurasian Steppe and the Balkans for millennia. It has been traversed by the Cimmerians, Scythians, Romans, and other peoples, including the armies of Darius and Zopyrion.
“From an archaeological perspective, this site can be compared to a tectonic fault line between Eastern and Western civilizations, featuring an extraordinary concentration of treasures and archaeological layers from various eras…”, – stated the rector.
Professor Ihor Bruyako, a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute, has been leading the archaeological digs for over 20 years.
This season marks the first time during the war that history students and volunteers from other departments have joined the research efforts.
“I wish you sensational discoveries! Touch the mysteries and breathe freedom”, – concluded Krasnozhon.
