New Bridge over the Danube: Southern Odessa Region Gains Modern Connection to Romania

Construction of a new bridge over the Danube River is set to begin in the southern part of the Odessa region.

According to CTSA, the bridge will be built in the village of Orlivka in the Izmail district, linking to the Romanian city of Isakcha.

This project is included in the Regional Recovery and Development Strategy for 2025-2027, published on the Odessa Regional Council's website.

The bridge will be part of the international route E87, connecting Ukraine with Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey.

Currently, drivers are required to make lengthy detours through Moldova, crossing the border twice. The new bridge will reduce the distance to Isakcha by approximately 80 kilometers.

The Orlivka-Isakcha bridge over the Danube is intended to be a key component of a major southern transport corridor, linking Ukraine with the European Union through Romania.

Construction is planned to be financed through international aid, with over 12.6 billion UAH allocated over three years. In 2025, 1.26 billion will be allocated, in 2026 almost 3.8 billion, and in 2027 over 7.5 billion UAH.

Ahead lie the design phase, ecological studies, actual construction of the bridge, access roads, as well as the establishment of checkpoints and connections to international highways.

The future bridge will feature four lanes, sidewalks for pedestrians on both sides, and will be resilient to earthquakes of up to 9 magnitude.

On the Ukrainian side, a 3 km access road will be constructed, while on the Romanian side, it will be 950 meters long.
