Ukraine Ranks Among Top Agricultural Exporters to the EU in 2024

In 2024, Ukraine ranked third among the largest agricultural exporters to the European Union, with an export volume of 13.1 billion euros, accounting for 6.7% of the total agricultural imports into the EU.

This information is reported by Delo.ua, citing Eurostat data.

Brazil was the largest supplier of agricultural products to the EU, contributing 8.8% of exports worth 17.1 billion euros.

Ukraine also trails behind the United Kingdom, which accounted for 8.5% and exports worth 16.6 billion euros.

In 2024, the EU exported agricultural products worth 234.1 billion euros and imported 194.9 billion euros, resulting in a surplus of 39.2 billion euros.

The main suppliers of agricultural products to the EU were:

  • Brazil (8.8%, 17.1 billion euros);
  • United Kingdom (8.5%, 16.6 billion euros);
  • Ukraine (6.7%, 13.1 billion euros);
  • USA (6.1%, 12.0 billion euros).

Compared to 2023, both exports and imports increased by 2.8% and 6.7%, respectively.

From 2014 to 2024, trade volumes in agricultural products within the EU increased by 59.0%. Specifically, exports rose by 58.0%, and imports by 60.2%, corresponding to an average annual growth of exports at 4.7% and imports at 4.8%.

In 2024, the United Kingdom became the primary destination for EU agricultural exports, accounting for 23.0% of the total (54.0 billion euros). The second place went to the USA (12.8%; 30.1 billion euros), followed by Switzerland (5.4%; 12.6 billion euros) and China (5.3%; 12.3 billion euros).

Reminder:

In 2024, the primary imports from Ukraine to the EU were agricultural products, particularly grains worth 4.4 billion euros.

Compared to 2021, the import of grains increased by 2.7 billion euros.

The export of corn seeds from Ukraine to the EU in 2024 increased over 30 times.

The main importer of Ukrainian corn seeds was France, which purchased 9.7 thousand tons.

Ukrainian farmers completed 76% of their sowing work.
