Meeting with Greek Delegation: Exploring New Avenues of Cooperation
On October 21, 2024, acting Odessa Mayor Alexander Filatov met with a delegation from the Hellenic Republic, led by Dimitrios Skalkos, Secretary General for International Economic Relations at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current situation in the city, bilateral cooperation, and plans for the restoration of Odessa amid the ongoing war.
«We are deeply grateful for your visit. It takes great courage to come to a country at war. We appreciate the support Greece provides to Ukraine, especially to Odessa,» said Alexander Filatov.
«Our visit is not about bravery, as true courage is living as you do, continuing to develop the city during wartime. We feel a moral obligation to support you,» stated Mr. Skalkos.
The Greek delegation confirmed its readiness to support restoration projects and assist in the recovery of Ukraine. The work of the Greece-Ukraine Friendship Parliamentary Group, which actively promotes cooperation between the two nations, was specifically noted.
In August 2023, the city of Corfu (Kerkyra, Hellenic Republic) hosted a group of Odessa children for summer rest and rehabilitation. From August 28 to September 11, 2024, a group of 44 children from Odessa, accompanied by 5 guardians, rested at the children’s camp of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens and all Greece (Avlonas, near Athens). Currently, efforts are being made to receive humanitarian aid from the Hellenic Republic in the form of work clothing for the city’s utility services.
