Modernization of Electric Transport in Odessa: A Step Towards Progress
The modernization of electric transport in Odessa is a key priority for the city authorities.
Approximately 80 trams operate daily across 13 routes, with the most frequented being route No. 7 and the least serviced being route No. 20 with just 2 trams.
On September 30, 2024, another refurbished Tatra T3 tram hit the tracks.
“Despite the ongoing war, we are committed to enhancing public transport in Odessa. This tram was renovated using the company’s own funds and cost ‘Odessmiskelektrotrans’ 4 million UAH, while a new tram costs around 18 million UAH. I thank the team for their effective work under these challenging conditions,” said Odessa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov.
The renovated tram has been completely updated inside and out, featuring a new control system that is 40% more energy-efficient.
The mayor also mentioned that the possibility of installing wheelchair lift mechanisms on older Tatra models is currently being explored.

The Tatra T3 tram was renovated at the ‘Odessmiskelektrotrans’ workshops using the company’s own budget. This is a special case of capital repair.
For the first time during this capital repair, the interior of the cabin and the driver’s compartment were updated, new seating was installed, and a new heating and air conditioning system was added. The glass was affixed using bonding techniques, as in retrofitting. Plans include another similar tram by the end of 2024 and two more trams in 2025.
Additionally, at the beginning of 2024, two units of the Tatra T-3-Od model were renovated, which are currently operating successfully on the “North – South” route. They underwent a major refurbishment with a control system overhaul funded by the budget.
In 2025, a similar renovation is planned for four more trams.
