Preparing Urban Greenery for Winter in Odesa
Workers from the municipal enterprise «Green City» have commenced preparations for the winter season of the city’s greenery.
According to the approved plan, this autumn, Odesa will see the planting of 380 young trees (plane trees, catalpas, birches, acacias, sophoras, and kellreiterias). All the trees are 8-10 years old and have been cultivated by the enterprise for urban planting.
Additionally, there are plans to plant 1500 shrubs and 3000 units of miscanthus (a perennial grass plant).
The planting work is expected to begin in the second half of October.
Starting from early November, the enterprise will begin winterizing its automated irrigation systems. The «Green City» enterprise manages about 50 irrigation systems located in various districts of the city, particularly in parks and squares.
Preparations for winter have also started in the greenhouse facilities of the «Rose» enterprise. The greenhouses operate year-round, with work beginning in September to set up for next year.
On 4000 square meters, insulation work and seed preparation for the following year are already underway. Annually, around 1 million plants are grown in the enterprise's greenhouses (250,000 spring flowers, 250,000 potted flowering plants, and about 500,000 other seedlings) and approximately 11,000 decorative leafy trees.

In 2024, Odesa plans to plant 200,000 spring flowers (daisies, selene, violas) and 200,000 summer flowers (salvia, tagetes, chlorophytum, geranium, coleus). The city will also be adorned with 100 hanging flower pots.
Moreover, in September this year, landscapers planted 5,000 chrysanthemum bushes, which will bloom in a week or two, beautifying the autumn city.
