Rainwater Drainage System Maintenance in Odesa
The municipal enterprise «City Roads» actively maintains the rainwater drainage system to keep it in good condition.
Experts perform repairs and cleaning of stormwater collectors, grates of catch basins, rainwater wells, and specialized hydraulic structures (drainage ditches, Buffer Pond) from mud, leaves, debris, and reeds.
The cleaning of rainwater drainage systems in Odesa is carried out continuously throughout the year according to a plan. During heavy rains, additional teams from «City Roads» work on the city streets. The workers clear catch basin grates from fallen leaves and debris carried by rainwater, ensuring free drainage of water from the streets.
In the first nine months of this year, employees completed cleaning works: ditches and trenches - 15,369 linear meters, catch basins - 3,902, collectors - 4,997 linear meters, and also cleaned 21,479 linear meters of pipes.
Additionally, workers mowed grass on ditches and trenches of hydraulic structures (10,060 linear meters) and cleaned 1,735.6 square meters of the Buffer Pond.
Cleaning works of the rainwater drainage systems are carried out manually and with the help of heavy machinery from «City Roads»: excavators with special attachments, motor graders, high-pressure hydraulic units based on MAN trucks for cleaning pipes, trucks, and other specialized equipment.
Experts also perform repairs on wells, replace pipes in catch basins, and if necessary, raise grates to road level and restore inspection well covers.
Since the beginning of 2024, workers have installed and replaced grates on catch basins - 55 units, and repaired catch basins with casting replacement - 26 units.
During operation, catch basin grates may sink, creating holes in the roadway which can lead to accidents. Experts from «City Roads» regularly address this issue.
Since the start of this year, municipal workers have raised 91 sunken catch basin grates to road level and established 19 inspection wells to road level. Additionally, they repaired 8 inspection wells with casting replacement and installed cover slabs on inspection wells (3 units) and catch basins (11 units).
Besides, since the start of this year, workers have repaired 41 linear meters of collectors, conducted video inspections of 556 linear meters of collectors, and pumped out 1,039 cubic meters of rainwater from the roadway.
