Future of Port Development on the Danube
Recently, a significant working meeting took place in Izmail between representatives of the State Enterprise «Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine» and a delegation from the European Commission on Transport.
The meeting featured Alan Baron, head of the «Solidarity Routes» team, Ina Miskulin from the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, and expert Antonio Stoyan from the Danube Commission.
The discussions primarily focused on navigation safety in the Black Sea and the Danube. Key topics included the Ukrainian «Bystre» mouth and the Romanian Sulina Canal, as well as mechanisms to be included in the rapid response plan currently being developed in cooperation with the European Commission.
Special emphasis was placed on increasing cargo handling in Danube ports and enhancing port infrastructure.
The Ukrainian side expressed gratitude to the European and Danube commissions for their prompt support following the incident involving the vessel «Ingulsky» in the approach channel of the «Bystre» mouth. The Administration noted the importance of ongoing collaboration with international partners to effectively respond to challenges, maintain navigation stability, and develop port infrastructure during wartime.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of mutual interest in the development of Danube region infrastructure and an agreement to continue regular dialogue on navigation safety and transport route optimization.
