New Highlights of the Odesa International Film Festival
The 16th Odesa International Film Festival is set to showcase two distinctive programs: the "Festival of Festivals" and the "Ukrainian Festival Festival". These initiatives will bring together global and Ukrainian cinema that tackles significant contemporary issues such as freedom, memory, human relationships, and global challenges.
This was announced by the press service of the Odesa International Film Festival.
Festival Programs
The "Festival of Festivals" will feature films from various countries, including the UK, Spain, Italy, France, Czech Republic, and the USA. Audiences will experience dramatic narratives exploring themes of human trauma, the fragility of trust, struggles with the past, and the quest for hope. Among the films included are "The Ceremony," "Evenings of Solitude," "Sicilian Letters," "The Choir Master," and others that have already received accolades at festivals in Venice, Cannes, San Sebastián, and Karlovy Vary.
The "Ukrainian Festival Festival" will unite new works by Ukrainian filmmakers. This includes "Queens of Joy," which discusses the LGBTQ+ community's struggle during the war, "Bartka," addressing ecological challenges in the Carpathians, and "Antarctica: War Diaries," showcasing the expedition of Ukrainian scientists during the Russian invasion.
Organizers emphasize that all films share a common thread: they address global issues through personal stories that resonate with everyone.
Where It Will Take Place
This year, the 16th Odesa International Film Festival (OIFF) will take place in Kyiv from September 24 to October 4, 2025. It has been relocated from Odesa due to the ongoing full-scale war waged by Russia against Ukraine.
We previously reported that Olya Polyakova announced her own film. We also noted that Netflix unveiled a teaser for a detective saga featuring Daniel Craig.
