Youth Safety: Essential Guidelines for Recreation

Law enforcement agencies are actively engaging with youth, emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety rules both in real life and online. In the Podil district of Odesa, a series of informative events were held in recreational areas. Those spending time near water bodies were reminded that swimming is only allowed in designated areas, diving can be dangerous, and life-saving equipment should not be neglected. It is crucial to be mindful of oneself and others.

During park walks, there was a focus on the culture of behavior in public spaces. Attendees were reminded not to litter, damage property, disturb others, or use profanity. Traffic rules were also discussed. Together with cyclists and pedestrians, police reiterated the main safety requirements: crossing streets only at designated spots, being vigilant at intersections, and using reflective elements in the dark. The topic of digital safety was also addressed. Law enforcement urged young people to be cautious online: not to share personal information, not to trust strangers, and to inform parents about inappropriate proposals, such as setting fire to someone else's property or viewing violent content.

“Our mission is to warn and protect children from troubles. At the same time, I want to remind parents that they are responsible for their children's behavior. Teach them to enjoy their leisure safely and respectfully by setting an example yourself,” said Ruslan Terletskiy, head of the juvenile prevention sector of the Podil district police.

The Odesa police call on parents and all caregivers to be attentive to their children, maintain open communication, and not overlook even minor warning signs of danger. Collective care is the best prevention.
