World Press Photo 2024 Exhibition Opens in Odesa
Today, December 6, the World Press Photo - 2024 exhibition was officially opened at the Odesa National Art Museum.
This year, the «Open Format» category was won by the series of photographs «War is Personal» by Ukrainian photographer Julia Kochetova.
The project by Johanna Maria Fritz, «Kakhovka Hydroelectric Station: Flood in the Combat Zone,» also reached the finals of the European region, documenting civilian evacuations during a flood.
The Odesa Photo Days Festival is the organizer of the exhibition tour in Ukraine. The exhibition features 129 photographs that document the war, protests, migration and climate crises, as well as other significant events from 2023. Finalists were selected from over 61,000 works submitted by 3,851 participants from 130 countries.
The exhibition in Ukraine was made possible thanks to the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine. Kyiv was the first city in the tour, where from late October to mid-November, 1,000 visitors attended the exhibition at the Dovzhenko Center.
The exhibition will showcase works from each of the 31 regional winners from 24 countries, including Argentina, Australia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Canada, China, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Myanmar, Palestine, Peru, the Philippines, South Africa, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, the United States, and Venezuela.
The exhibition will run from December 6, 2024, to January 12, 2025.

The World Press Photo Foundation is an independent organization supporting photojournalists and documentary photographers, promoting the development of global photojournalism. The organization has its own academy and conducts workshops and seminars.
Odesa Photo Days is an international festival of contemporary photography, founded in 2015 in response to the war in Eastern Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea. Since February 24, 2022, the festival has not been held, but the team works with Ukrainian photographers and the international community to spread awareness about the war in Ukraine and assist those affected.
