Removing Stumps: New Technologies for Urban Greenery
Employees of the municipal enterprise «Green City» are actively engaged in stump removal across the streets of Odessa.
Since the beginning of this year, more than 600 stumps have been removed, including 120 in the Preobrazhensky Park and 56 on Prince Vladimir the Great Avenue as part of the «Barrier-free Odessa» initiative.
Currently, work is ongoing on Kanatna Street, where 34 out of 51 planned stumps have already been removed this week.
The Odessa City Council urges residents and visitors not to park their cars near work sites to avoid hindering the operation of heavy machinery.
The process of stump removal is quite complex and labor-intensive. Until this year, the municipal workers lacked the necessary equipment, complicating their tasks.
With the introduction of new machinery, such as the Rotor Speedy 80/100 stump grinder, the time required for these tasks has significantly decreased: previously, removing a stump with a diameter of 70 cm took 12 hours, now it only takes 40 minutes.
In total, 852 stumps are planned for removal in the central part of the city, where new young trees will be planted: maple, ash, acacia, sophora, plane tree, and linden.
These operations are being carried out using new equipment, including the Rotor Speedy 80/100 stump grinder and the KATA KF1404 tractor with 140 horsepower, ensuring quality and timely stump removal.
