In Memory of Valeriy Khait: A Literary Icon
On February 1, 2025, at the age of 85, the esteemed satirist Valeriy Isaakovich Khait passed away.
His life was deeply intertwined with Odessa, literature, and humor.
Valeriy Khait was recognized as:
- vice president of the World Club of Odessans since 1990;
- one of the founders of the Odessa Humorin;
- editor-in-chief of the humor magazine «Fontan»;
- creator and host of the television program «Fontan Club» on the 1+1 channel;
- captain of the legendary KVN teams of Odessa;
- recipient of numerous literary awards and compiler of editions showcasing Odessa humor;
- initiator of the Odessa International Literary Prize named after Isaac Babel and the establishment of a monument to the writer.
The Odessa City Council extends heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of this talented writer, whose memory will forever remain in the hearts of Odessa residents.
