Sports and Unity: Ukrainian Rowing Championship
This weekend, Odessa became the venue for a significant national sports event — the Ukrainian Rowing Championship, featuring participants from all over the country.
A record 32 teams participated, including veterans and military servicemen. Notably, this championship marked the first time that two teams of children with disabilities took part.
Odessa's Mayor, Gennady Trukhanov, delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the importance of this event.
«This is more than just a competition. It is a testament to indomitable spirit. You are already winners — through pain and loss. Today, with your smiles, you show everyone that life goes on», he addressed the veterans.
The mayor added that Odessa is a place where everyone can find support and rest.
Gennady Trukhanov also announced that the Odessa veterans' team will participate in the legendary Venice Regatta, which has been held for over 700 years. A boat with the Ukrainian flag will symbolize our resilience on the international stage.
Dmitry Stepnov, head of the Ukrainian Federation of Marine Multisports, expressed his admiration for the organization and significance of the championship:
«This is not just rehabilitation for veterans but for society as a whole. Veterans serve as role models for the youth, and we already have our first trainers among them. What is happening in Odessa is a dream come true», he noted.
During the event, a thank you was presented to Mayor Gennady Trukhanov and Vitaly Holodko for their significant contributions to the development of adaptive rowing among servicemen.
The championship was organized with the support of the NGO «Barrier-Free».
