Daria Mironyuk Advances in the Shanghai Grand Prix
Ukrainian fencer Daria Mironyuk has successfully advanced to the main draw of the Grand Prix taking place in Shanghai.
In the 1/64 finals, she defeated her opponent from Hong Kong with a score of 12:7. Out of five Ukrainian athletes competing, only Mironyuk managed to move forward, while the other four faced defeats.
Alina Polozniuk lost to Camilla Mancini (8:15), Kim Ho Yong bested Kristina Petrova (10:15), Kateryna Budenko suffered a heavy defeat against Maria Teresa Dias (5:15), and Olga Sopyt was eliminated by Vladislava Penyushkina in the 1/128 round.
The main event will occur on Sunday, May 18, at 05:00 Kyiv time.
It’s worth noting that at the end of 2024, Mironyuk won her first senior-level medal, achieving silver at the European Championship in Basel as part of the Ukrainian team.
Additionally, it was reported earlier that the International Fencing Federation allowed “neutral” Russians and Belarusians to participate in team events.
