Fighting Diabetes: Odesa Hosts Conference for World Diabetes Day
Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov participated in a conference dedicated to World Diabetes Day.
According to the World Health Organization, diabetes is among the top three diseases that often lead to disability and death. Timely diagnosis can significantly reduce the risks of complications.
In attendance were specialists as well as parents and children living with diabetes, who receive comprehensive support. The conference also discussed the advancements in modern diabetology.
«Despite the war, Odesa continues to work on improving the quality of life for people with diabetes and raising awareness about this disease. We are ready to implement other modern solutions and technologies that will enhance the lives of our children, and we are also developing preventive measures to promote a healthy lifestyle among the youth», said the Mayor of Odesa.
In Odesa, over 30,000 adults and children live with diabetes. Among them, nearly 5,000 patients have insulin-dependent diabetes and receive insulin therapy, including more than 400 children.
- All diabetes patients have access to necessary medications through the "Affordable Medicines" program.
- The "Diabetes School" operates at the Resnik Children's Center.
- Within the framework of the City Health Program, insulin pumps and supplies have been acquired for children with type 1 diabetes.
- Children are provided with continuous glucose monitoring systems free of charge.
- Free events are held to raise awareness about the prevention and early detection of diabetes.
- A project to educate teachers about diabetes has been launched.
