Updates on Decommunization Maps in Ukraine

The public organization «Decolonization. Ukraine» has released new maps indicating the number of streets that require renaming in Ukraine as part of the decommunization and decolonization efforts. In the Odesa region, 228 streets are included in this list.

This region ranks fifth among all regions of Ukraine for the number of streets that need renaming. The leader remains the Zaporizhzhia region, where 1001 streets need to be decolonized.

«This list is not exhaustive, as there are streets named after local communist figures that few people know about,» said the organization, adding that the maps will be updated after further clarifications.

It is also noted that in some regions, such as Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv, the renaming process, according to activists, is already complete.

The YouTube channel «Odesa Life» has launched a new video series titled «Streets of Odesa: Then – Now,» where they discuss individuals whose names are memorialized in the streets of Odesa and its surroundings.

Earlier, the project «Decolonization. Ukraine» published a map of monuments and plaques to Pushkin that have not yet been removed. According to their counts, the largest number is found in Odesa. A proposal was also made in Odesa to rename Mark Twain Park.
