Supporting Veterans: New Initiatives in Odesa
The Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, held a meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian veterans' union «Unbreakable Solidarity», Vadym Shypulin and Maksym Zhivanov.
Also present were: Volodymyr Yermakov, head of the «Veteran Hub» Service Office, deputy mayors Serhiy Kotsiuba and Valeriy Silin, and Oleksiy Morozov, advisor to the mayor and head of the NGO «Barrier-Free Opportunities».
The agenda focused on important issues such as coordinating actions in support of veterans, rehabilitation programs, accessibility, and organizing events for the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, celebrated annually on October 1.
«We must not only remember our defenders but also create conditions for their dignified life and development every day. This is our direct obligation», emphasized Hennadiy Trukhanov.

- In Odesa, the «Veteran Hub» Service Office provides psychological and legal assistance, helps veterans with employment and social adaptation.
- A Barrier-Free Council operates to coordinate the implementation of inclusive solutions in urban space and administrative services.
- The city implements targeted financial assistance programs for veterans, families of fallen and missing servicemen, and provides free medications in accordance with current legislation.
- Veterans have priority access to medical services, rehabilitation, e-prescriptions, and examinations within city and state programs.
- Odesa actively collaborates with veteran organizations, expanding the network of service points in city districts and involving specialists in working with veterans.
Among the current challenges are the need to expand rehabilitation programs, improve access to medical services, and enhance social integration.
