Unbreakable Peaks: GUR Veterans Conquer the Himalayas

“Unbreakable Peaks: GUR Veterans Conquer the Himalayas” — a film that redefines our understanding of possibilities.

On May 31, 2025, the premiere of Roman Bebeha's documentary “Everest. Unbreakable Peaks” took place, telling a story of willpower, dignity, and brotherhood.

The main characters are veterans from the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Ivan Tarn (“Artan”) and Oleksandr Dashko (“Kraken”), who reached the Everest base camp (5280 m) as part of the charity project Limitless.

“Climbing Everest was symbolic for me. We have come a long way, but the true peak is ahead. It’s a chance to show what our comrades do on the front lines. If we could do this, imagine what they do every day,” said Ivan Tarn.

Oleksandr Dashko emphasized that the ascent in the Himalayas was a serious challenge.

“This climb should inspire other guys with amputations. They need to know: life goes on after amputation,” the veteran stressed.

The film’s author, journalist Roman Bebeha, captured the entire mountain journey undertaken by the war veterans.

“It was tough for everyone. We were under pressure — both atmospheric and physical. But we managed,” he said.

The premiere also featured professional climbers who accompanied Ivan and Oleksandr during the expedition. The group moved daily for 10-11 hours.

“Honestly, I didn’t believe that Sasha would make it. But we did it. Ivan is a legend. Thank you to the whole team! You are incredible!”, shared climber Tetiana Yalovchak.

Evgeniy Yerin, a representative of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, thanked the organizers of the charity project “Limitless” for their initiative and shared his impressions of the film.

“This is more than just climbing a mountain. It’s a victory of spirit and willpower displayed by our comrades,” he summed up.

The goal of the Limitless project is to raise awareness about the challenges faced by veterans with amputations and to collect 3 million UAH to combat phantom pain.

The project is being implemented in partnership with the UNBROKEN Ukraine rehabilitation center, with the support of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
