He emphasized NATO's unwavering support and pledged to continue assisting Ukraine.
"The Ukrainian people have endured so much – not only the Russian attack in Sumy on Palm Sunday. NATO's support is steadfast. We will continue to assist Ukraine so it can defend itself today and deter future aggression, ensuring a fair and lasting peace," Rutte wrote.
For his part, Zelensky shared on X that he and Rutte visited a hospital where Ukrainian defenders are recovering from injuries. He also posted videos from this visit.
"I spoke with the soldiers. Awarded defenders with state honors. I thank the guys for their strength, resilience, and for protecting our people," he stated.
On April 4, after the conclusion of the Alliance's ministerial meeting, Rutte stated that the Alliance's decision regarding Ukraine's NATO membership remains unchanged despite all political statements.
On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Kirill Dmitriev, who was in Washington, stated that the Trump administration understands the position of Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin regarding Ukraine's NATO membership being impossible.
