Arrest of Assailant for Attack on Couple in Odesa
A 34-year-old resident of Odesa is now involved in a case after violently assaulting a couple on the street. The assailant injured both victims, striking the man with a stone and the woman with a knife. He faces up to 15 years in prison with asset confiscation for this crime.

The incident occurred in the Kyiv District of Odesa. The perpetrator asked the couple for their mobile phone under the pretext of making a call, then attempted to flee. The couple pursued him, but he struck the man in the head with a stone and stabbed the woman in the shoulder. The man lost consciousness, while his wife sought help from bystanders, who called the police and an ambulance. Doctors provided necessary medical assistance and released them home. The man suffered a head injury, and the woman had a stab wound on her shoulder.
Authorities found that the attacker had previous convictions for theft. During a search of his residence, police seized a knife, and additional evidence was collected from the crime scene, which has been sent for examination. The stolen phone was sold by the assailant, and police are working to locate it.
"Based on the gathered evidence, we have notified the suspect of charges related to an attack aimed at stealing someone else's property, combined with violence dangerous to the health of the assaulted person, i.e., robbery committed during a state of war. This crime is classified under Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and is punishable by up to 15 years in prison with asset confiscation. At our request, the court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention", - reported Senior Investigator of Odesa District Police No. 1 Kateryna Boratynska.
Additionally, an investigation has been initiated regarding the bodily harm inflicted on the woman under Article 125 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigators will provide a final legal qualification of the suspect's actions based on the results of forensic examinations and other evidence gathered during the pre-trial investigation.
