Homeless Man Arrested for Car Arson
Law enforcement officers have apprehended a 50-year-old homeless man for arson of a vehicle. His actions were motivated by a personal grievance against the owner. The suspect has been charged and a preventive measure has been imposed. He faces up to 10 years of imprisonment for his crime.
This was reported by the press service of the National Police.
Recently, emergency services contacted the police about a fire involving a Volkswagen car on one of the streets of the Peresyp district. In just three hours, investigators identified the arsonist as a 50-year-old homeless man.
Investigators collected various pieces of evidence and sent them for analysis. They also discovered that the man committed the crime to take revenge on the 30-year-old car owner for not allowing him entry into the entrance of the apartment building where his friend lives.
"We detained the suspect in accordance with legal procedures and charged him with intentional damage to someone else's property through arson. According to part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by up to ten years of imprisonment. The court has chosen a preventive measure of detention with the right to post bail in the amount of 121,120 UAH. The extent of damages to the victim is currently being determined. The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Suvorov District Prosecutor's Office of Odesa," said Natalia Mrochko, the deputy head of the investigative division of Police Department No. 3 of Odesa District Police Department No. 1.
