Surge in Electricity Consumption in Ukraine Due to Cold Weather
The drop in temperatures and the delay in the heating season in Ukraine have led to a sharp increase in electricity consumption, rising by over 20% compared to the beginning of the month, stated Vitaliy Zaichenko, the head of the board of Ukrenergo.
"We hope that within the next ten days, heating will be provided across Ukraine, which will lead to a decrease in electricity consumption. Currently, many consumers are using electricity for heating with devices like air conditioners and heaters," he mentioned during a telethon.
He noted that over the past seven years, residential consumers have become the largest users of electricity in Ukraine, so changing their behavior could significantly help stabilize the situation, particularly by refraining from using high-power appliances during peak load times.
