Mild Earthquake in Romania Felt in Ukraine
A weak earthquake measuring 3.4 in magnitude was recorded in the Vrancea seismic zone of Romania at a depth of 125.7 km. Although the epicenter was located in Romania, slight tremors may have been felt by residents in the Odesa region.
On October 13, 2025, in the morning, an earthquake struck Romania's Vrancea seismic area, the reverberations of which could be felt in the Odesa region. According to the Romanian National Institute of Earth Physics (INFP), the tremor was recorded at 08:36:22 local time, coinciding with Kyiv time. Such events are typically hazardous for southern regions of Ukraine, particularly Odesa, due to their proximity to this active zone.
"The earthquake occurred near the following cities: 30 km west of Focșani, 68 km north of Buzău, 80 km east of Sfântu Gheorghe, 84 km southwest of Bârlad, 89 km southwest of Bacău, and 94 km east of Brașov," the report states.
According to the INFP, the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.4 on the Richter scale, and its focus lay at a significant depth of 125.7 kilometers. Although this earthquake is classified as mild and likely caused no damage in Romania, deep tremors in Vrancea are often characterized by a wide radius of seismic wave propagation. This means that residents in northern and central Odesa, especially those living in high-rise buildings, might have experienced light shaking.
