Establishing Barrier-Free Environment at Filatov Institute

Ophthalmologists have reached out to the Barrier-Free Council under the Mayor of Odesa with a proposal to support the Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy in implementing barrier-free solutions on the institution's territory. This includes equipping pedestrian areas with tactile paving, creating accessible navigation, and providing information in Braille — all of which are critically important for visually impaired patients.

«I will bring this issue to the attention of the deputies, as the Filatov Institute — is not just a medical facility. It is a research center with over a hundred years of history, subordinate to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Its contribution to the development of ophthalmology is recognized not only in Ukraine but also far beyond its borders. We will surely find ways to assist», - stated Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.

Daily, the clinic of the Institute serves about 500 patients, including civilians, children, individuals with disabilities, and military personnel receiving high-quality care.

Previously, repairs were made to the sidewalks and a traffic light was installed on the section of French Boulevard near the institution.

«The next logical step should be to create a fully accessible environment that meets the status of the institution and the needs of its patients», - noted the Mayor's advisor on accessibility, Oleksiy Morozov.
