Google Urges Gmail Users to Enhance Account Security

Google is urging its 2.5 billion Gmail users to take action to strengthen their account security after a series of hacking breaches, according to the New York Post.

The company advises users to be vigilant about suspicious activity and to enable additional security measures, including two-factor authentication, if they haven't done so already.

Hackers often gain access to accounts through phishing emails with fake login pages or by tricking users into providing two-factor authentication codes. While many users have strong passwords, only about one-third regularly update them.

Google is advising users to enhance their security following the breach of its Salesforce database, where open data, including contacts from small and medium-sized businesses, was compromised. The group ShinyHunters, known since 2020 for its high-profile hacks (AT&T, Microsoft, Santander, Ticketmaster), may be planning new attacks and threatening victims by launching a data leak site.

Google notes that new attack methods are aimed at increasing pressure on victims, particularly those affected by the recent Salesforce incidents.

All users impacted by the latest attack have been contacted by Google via email. The company urges users to regularly check their account activity, avoid suspicious links, and report any unusual actions.
