New Opportunities for Senior Military Personnel
On July 29, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a new law permitting citizens aged 60 and over to enlist in the military on a contractual basis.
This document stipulates that during a state of war, with written consent from the unit commander, individuals aged 60 and above who are deemed fit by a military medical commission may join the armed forces. These soldiers will be able to hold non-combat positions among the ranks of privates, sergeants, or officers. Contracts for those aged 60+ are set for one year with an option for renewal. For officers in this age group, approval from the General Staff of the Armed Forces is mandatory. This category of contract soldiers will undergo a two-month probationary period. If the results show the military does not meet the standards, the contract will be terminated.
In case of termination or cancellation of the state of war, all such contracts will automatically cease to be valid.
