Engaging Workshop for Students by Crime Specialists

Recently, students from a local gymnasium had the opportunity to delve into the world of forensics thanks to the specialists from the Criminal Security Sector of the Odessa District Police Department No. 1, Captain Max Pasichny and Lieutenant Julia Sokerchak.

The specialists explained modern methods of collecting, preserving, and analyzing evidence that are crucial in solving crimes. Special attention was given to the documentation of traces left by offenders at crime scenes. Later, the forensic experts showcased the contents of their kits, demonstrating how to properly lift fingerprints and the differences between them.

«Anyone interested could try their hand at being a forensic specialist and fingerprint a classmate. The students quickly grasped that quality evidence collection is critical for solving crimes, so they performed their duties as young experts with great responsibility, as if they were truly dealing with a criminal and had no room for error,» Captain Max Pasichny shared.

The students were particularly interested in the personal experiences of the police officers, so the meeting included real-life cases that illustrated the importance of prompt and effective work by forensic experts in serious crime investigations. Additionally, the officers presented a video about the work of a forensic expert from the National Police of Ukraine as part of an investigative team involved in high-profile cases, including inspections of missile strike sites in recently liberated areas.

Every year, graduates face the difficult choice of profession, so at the end of the meeting, the officers informed future applicants about the specifics of studying at universities within the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, which train police officers and facilitate further employment in territorial police units.

«I believe that such meetings help young people consciously choose their future profession, so I would be glad if any of the gymnasium students decide to join the ranks of the National Police of Ukraine after this event,» Lieutenant Julia Sokerchak concluded.
