Tragedy in Odessa Region: Fires Claim Lives and Destroy Land
In the Odessa region, several large fires occurred in a single day, devastating vast areas and claiming one life. Three others suffered burns due to the flames. The fires were extinguished in the Rozdilna, Odessa, Izmail, and Berezivka districts, according to the State Emergency Service.
On July 7, in the afternoon, near the village of Novopetrivka, a fire broke out over an area of 23 hectares, where stubble and shrubs were ablaze. Emergency responders quickly acted and managed to extinguish the fire. An investigation into the cause of the fire and the assessment of damage is currently underway. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
On the same day, near the village of Velyki Lonzaky, another fire occurred, covering an area of 2.5 hectares, which also resulted in the destruction of several abandoned structures. Firefighters promptly extinguished the blaze.
However, a woman born in 1955 suffered burns while attempting to extinguish the fire herself. She was hospitalized. Four units of equipment and 17 firefighters were involved in the operation.
In the village of Broska, on July 7, a fire broke out on an area of 2.5 hectares, where dry grass and two abandoned buildings were burning. The firefighters successfully extinguished the fire.
Sadly, the body of a woman born in 1947 was found at the scene, who apparently tried to put out the fire. Two units of equipment and 7 firefighters were involved, along with assistance from local fire teams.
In the evening of July 7, a fire ignited in the village of Novosvitivka over an area of 2.5 hectares, leading to injuries to two underage girls who were hospitalized for smoke inhalation. Three units of equipment and 10 firefighters participated in the firefighting efforts.
