Forest Restoration: New Nurseries Established in Odesa and Mykolaiv Regions

New nurseries have been launched in the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions to aid in the restoration of forest resources in the liberated territories of Kherson. The overall area of these nurseries totals 45 hectares, with each forestry having its plot ranging from 0.3 to 3 hectares.

According to the Southern Forest Office of the State Enterprise 'Forests of Ukraine', these areas were barren just a year ago, but now they are cultivating seedlings intended for planting in spring 2025 and autumn 2024.

“A year ago, this area was overrun with weeds. Thanks to investments, the nurseries have been restored – new equipment for soil cultivation, irrigation, and shading nets have been introduced to protect the seedlings from the scorching southern sun. Staff has also been formed,” say representatives from the office.

In spring 2026, they plan to produce 25 million seedlings, which will enable reforestation of 4,000 to 5,000 hectares.

The majority of the planting material will be directed towards restoring forests in the liberated territories, which will join the State Enterprise 'Forests of Ukraine' this year.
